Track 25 – Falling (Duke Dumont Remix) – HAIM (2013)
I slightly slower tune but still with some beats to keep you rumbling. This track is a remix of the opening tune off Haim’s debut album, Days Are Gone from 2013. I probably came across this tune about a year ago on YouTube as I was randomly searching for music.
Haim’s harmonies on the track (as they are on all their music) are wonderful and the sparseness of the start is haunting. The build lifts you up and drops to a lovely melodic beat with a driving synth.
It’s easy to think the lyrics are about a relationship, but I think is more about taking a leap of faith, following your heart, not giving up. The lyrics – “Don’t stop, no, I’ll never give up, And I’ll never look back, just hold your head up, And if it gets rough, it’s time to get rough” and the repeated “Never look back, never give up” are highly motivational to keep you pushing.
