The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 21

Track 21 – Voodoo People – The Prodigy (1994)

Keeping the pedal firmly to the metal it the Godfathers of Rave, The Prodigy.

A full on assault of the senses. This track never lets up. There are a couple of breaks and drops but most of it is at a riotous 150 beats per minute. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 21”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 20

Track 20 – Lola’s Theme – The Shapeshifters (2004)

I started to get a bit precious about this list. The first 10-15 tunes that I love to run to were easy to choose. Then, I would take a look at the long list of tunes that I’ve noted down and think “That’s not hard enough, that’s not fast enough” as if every one of them has to be the perfect running tune. The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 19

Track 19 – Work – Kelly Rowland (Steve Pitron & Max Sanna Radio Edit) (2008)

Straight in. Not messing. Go hard. This song doesn’t mess around and drops straight in from the off.

This is my 5km playlist final track and I’ve used it successfully to finish “hard”. The beat and the pace of this song gets me flying and gives me so much energy. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 19”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 18

Track 18 – Don’t Kill My Vibe – Sigrid (2017)

Listening to this, it sounds like a big “F you” song about a failed relationship. It’s actually a response to an older male producer who patronised her and was rude during an early recording session. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 18”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 17

Track 17 – Faded – ZHU (2014)

This is one of those times when you think you discovered something only to find it has over 30 million views in various forms on YouTube, was a number 1 hit in the UK, US and Polish dance charts and was nominated for a Grammy. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 17”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 16

Track 16 – Seek Bromance – Tim Berg (2010)

Tim Berg you say. Who’s he? He was the Swedish fella who later hit superstardom as Avicii and already has one track on this list.

I think I found this track by Shazam’ing it, and once you know who it actually is its fairly obvious it is an early Avicii track. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 16”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 15

Track 15 – Dark and Long (Dark Train) – Underworld (1994)

In the ongoing journey through my musical history, we now come to Underworld.

There was a number of tracks I could have chosen – Rez, Cowgirl, Pearls Girl or Born Slippy.

I first discovered Underworld in 1996 when I read a review of their second album – Second Toughest in the Infants and without hearing it, went that morning and bought it. I loved it and it sat nicely with another album I was listening to, Leftism by Leftfield. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 15”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 14

Track 14 – It Feels So Good – Sonique (1998/2000)

I first heard of Sonique as a DJ in the 90s, who used to sing over the top of the tracks she played. I bought her first single “I Put a Spell on You”

She when globally with the release of “It Feels So Good” and subsequently retired from Djing. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 14”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 13

Track 13 – Nightmare – Brainbug (Sinister Strings Mix) (1997)

You may have noticed or I have already alluded to, I like early 80s and 90s house/trance music. Much of this stems from a tape I purloined off my brother of a rave by Paul Oakenfold with him MC’ing over the top and requesting over the mic that settings and monitors are turned up or down. It was pretty low quality. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 13”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 12

Track 12 – Gym and Tonic – Spacedust (1998)

I thought this track was actually a Thomas Bangalter track (one half of Daft Punk). I was half right. It’s actually a British Duo who took French record producer Bob Sinclar’s track “Gym Tonic”, (a co-production by Thomas Bangalter) and mashed it up with another Bangalter track, Music Sounds Better with You (released under the name Stardust).
