Mixed Emotions – Chase & Status feat. Clementine Douglas (2022)

The very first time I heard this tune it had me nodding away to its rolling bassline and beautiful vocals. Chase & Status are (mainly) a drum and bass due that have been producing hits and popularising drum and bass since 2003. Along the way they have been BRIT nominated and produced Rihanna. This track is from their most recent 2022 album What Came Before, and it’s a very fine slice on dance music that will have you chipping along on a run and upping that cadence.

I’ve recently listened to two very good podcasts concerning the musical genre and the duo themselves. Turn It Up – A Short History of Drum and Bass is available on BBC Sounds and does what it says on the tin and is an excellent snapshot of the history of the scene. The other is Chase & Status: How to harness the power of obsession for the High Performance Podcast which is superb. It shows a very different image of what you may think two drum and bass producers would be, but clearly shows why they’ve been so successful.
