The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 13

Track 13 – Nightmare – Brainbug (Sinister Strings Mix) (1997)

You may have noticed or I have already alluded to, I like early 80s and 90s house/trance music. Much of this stems from a tape I purloined off my brother of a rave by Paul Oakenfold with him MC’ing over the top and requesting over the mic that settings and monitors are turned up or down. It was pretty low quality. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 13”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 12

Track 12 – Gym and Tonic – Spacedust (1998)

I thought this track was actually a Thomas Bangalter track (one half of Daft Punk). I was half right. It’s actually a British Duo who took French record producer Bob Sinclar’s track “Gym Tonic”, (a co-production by Thomas Bangalter) and mashed it up with another Bangalter track, Music Sounds Better with You (released under the name Stardust). The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 11

Track 11 – Sun is Shining – Bob Marley vs. Funkstar De Luxe (1999)

The balmy summer continues here in the UK, so the tunes are staying hot.

Sun is shining. The weather is sweet, yeah. Make you want to move, your dancin’ feet

Could this be the ultimate summer tune? Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 11”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 10 (Special World Cup Edition)

Track 10 – Mas Que Nada – Sergio Mendes (Echobeatz) (1998)

Today’s track is inspired by the fine summer weather the UK is currently experiencing and the excellent World Cup that’s presently occurring. A track that has me dreaming of doing stepovers and nutmegging the keeper on Copacabana beach in a pick up football game. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 10 (Special World Cup Edition)”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 9

Track 9 – Can’t Hold Us – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Ray Dalton (2012)

Here’s a party anthem! If you ever need a party to go off, drop this track. It also gets you flying on your run.

From American hip hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis debut studio album The Heist that also contains the classic Thrift Shop, it’s the anthem, Can’t Hold Us. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 9”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 8

Track 8 – Nalin & Kane – Beachball (1997)

Another tune that was on the long list and got bumped up today as a friend of mine sent me a What’s App with a link to the tune with the message “This one goes out to the Boy Lard”

My fondness for this tune goes beyond it being a stunning example of 90s Balearic house music. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 8”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 7

Track 7 – Lose Yourself – Eminem (2002)

“Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted, in one moment
Would you capture it, or just let it slip?”

Not a bad opening, eh? How did this one fall to number 7? It’s really is a final mile tune when you need some real inspiration, so if this playlist ever gets a final definitive list, this will be towards the end. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 7”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 6

Track 6 – Catch – Kosheen (2001)

So you’ve had a little break with the smooth cruisey vibes of Pete Heller. Now its time to get back to picking off those runners in front of you. There’s no better tune than Kosheen’s Catch to do that too. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 6”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 5

Track 5 – Big Love – Pete Heller (1999)

After the insanity of Daft Punk, do we bring it down a little bit or keep the tempo high?

To settle you down and keep you plodding along, keeping your rhythm and flow, its Pete Heller’s hit from 1999. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 5”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 4

Track 4 – Around the World / Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger – Daft Punk (2007)

More obscure mixes this week.

Have you ever asked yourself the question “If I could go to any music gig from the past what would it be”? Mine would be Daft Punk at Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy arena in Paris on 14 June 2007. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 4”
