Track 4 – Around the World / Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger – Daft Punk (2007)
More obscure mixes this week.
Have you ever asked yourself the question “If I could go to any music gig from the past what would it be”? Mine would be Daft Punk at Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy arena in Paris on 14 June 2007.
This is the fifth track of the live album from that gig and an awesome mix of two of their hits. Every time I hear “Around the World / Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” I feel like I can run through a brick wall. I could just stick this song on repeat and I’d destroy all my PBs! If it happens to come on when you’re just walking, it has you pacing at top speed, swerving around people.
The Around the World beats and kick drum keep a nice rhythm and pace. A tasty breakdown and build that will have the heart rate touching Zone 5 before the kick drum drops and you going flat out.
How can lyrics like – “Faster, faster, faster, stronger. Do it faster, makes us stronger. Harder, harder, harder, harder” not help you?
This is the mix that changed America’s opinion on dance music, which they still hadn’t got it (or EDM) and especially not LIVE dance music when they played in at Cocella in 2006.
A BBC documentary “Daft Punk Unchained” (available on Netflix) and here on Vimeo, explains this and the rise of Daft Punk and the control they have over their careers and music.
Blasting us through the forth kilometer and onwards to possible exhaustion is Daft Punk.
