Question and Answer

I like a good Question and Answer, so have decided to put my own together. Here is a little more about me and when makes me tick.

Born and raised: Born in Leeds, Yorkshire. Raised in Burton on Trent, Staffordshire.

Current location: South West London.

What changed: I become the fat, unfit friend and got fed up of it. I found BMF, loved it and kept going.

Why blogging: I want to share the things I pick up and help others if I can. I struggle with accountability. If I talk the talk, it helps me walk the walk.

London Marathon 2012

Running history: London Marathon in 2008 and 2010. A few halfs and many 10kms.

Running ambition: Sub 4hr London. Maintain my fitness and be able to rock up to an event and crush it.

Running superpower: Snap back ankles. I can take a miss step off a kerb and my ankles will be fine.

Running weakness: I still think I am 20. I need to take it easier sometimes.

Current running shoes: Nike Pegasus 31.

Steve Cram

Favourite runner: Steve Cram. I loved the way he raced. I always wanted his yellow and black vest. The reason I started to run 800m back in the day.

Favourite places to run: Bushy Park and Wimbledon Common.

Favourite non-running exercise: Cycling and snowboarding.

Exercise weakness: Press-ups. After so many years of doing them, I am still useless.

Favourite sports brands: Nike. I look at other brands and I know I will always regret not getting Nike. It’s Michael Jordan’s fault!

One meal of the rest of your life: Bacon and eggs on toast

Food Weakness: Cookies or Chocolate Sponge

Favourite book: Bleachers by John Grisham. It is not the normal legal fair, but a short book about a high school quarterback returning to his hometown for the funeral of his high school coach and dealing with ghosts and girlfriends of the past.

Most useful book: Finding Ultra by Rich Roll. His memoir including how he made changes to his life and tackled 5 Ironmans in 5 days. Helped ignite the change to lose weight and push my fitness. A stepping stone to eating more vegetarian.

Favourite film: The Shawshank Redemption. I know it’s a bit standard, but I truly love it. It just takes its time, the story is great, the acting is great, the music is beautiful. It’s perfection.

Favourites Athletes:

Usain Bolt – Athletics would be so different without him. He is currently holding it together. I truly hope he can do the business this summer.

Lebron James – Though not my favourite basketball player, there is a person who understands pressure. He has gone from hero, to villain and back to hero to bring his hometown its first championship in 52 years. Can do stuff like this.

Peter Sagan – Current cycling world champion. Does stuff like this, and this. A breath of fresh air!

Guilty pleasure: I love a rom-com.

Favourite other sports: Rugby

Snowboarding with friends

Where are you happiest: In the mountains snowboarding with friends and loved ones.

Favourite city: New York. It was everything I wanted it to be. It felt very familiar.

Next travels: I would love to go to Nepal. I have a fascination with Everest. I have no intention to climb it!

Philosophy: Just do it! There are so many reasons not to start something. Don’t think so hard about it and just do it! Or just make a step in the right direction.

What’s next: I have signed up for two half marathons for this Autumn. Trying for sub 1:45, but hope to get close to 1:40.
