7 ways to avoid chafing when running

batman chafing

Chafing occurs where your skin meets some kind of friction, this can be most commonly between your legs, but also under the arms, around bra straps/wire and nipples. The outer layer of the skin is rubbed and becomes red and irritated. It can be skin on skin or skin against a fabric.

The repetitive movement of running and the exercise-induced sweat, make chafing a common occurrence whilst running. Continue reading “7 ways to avoid chafing when running”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 15

Track 15 – Dark and Long (Dark Train) – Underworld (1994)

In the ongoing journey through my musical history, we now come to Underworld.

There was a number of tracks I could have chosen – Rez, Cowgirl, Pearls Girl or Born Slippy.

I first discovered Underworld in 1996 when I read a review of their second album – Second Toughest in the Infants and without hearing it, went that morning and bought it. I loved it and it sat nicely with another album I was listening to, Leftism by Leftfield. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 15”

Checking in – August 2018

Gdansk beach

This was going to be a post about motivation and races. This was brought on by missing another run following one to many beers on Saturday night. It was a good night, well-spent outside in a courtyard with family and friends in Poland. A good time was had by all. The late finish, sleeping in and headache put pay to the Sunday morning run. The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 14

Track 14 – It Feels So Good – Sonique (1998/2000)

I first heard of Sonique as a DJ in the 90s, who used to sing over the top of the tracks she played. I bought her first single “I Put a Spell on You”

She when globally with the release of “It Feels So Good” and subsequently retired from Djing. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 14”

Some things I like – August 2018

Some things I have liked over the last few months and want to share –

FILM – The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and soundtrack

When this film came out in 2013 I thought that looks odd and couldn’t figure out what it’s about. I caught it on Film 4 a year or so ago and really liked it. I’ve since watched it a couple of times and now love it.

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 13

Track 13 – Nightmare – Brainbug (Sinister Strings Mix) (1997)

You may have noticed or I have already alluded to, I like early 80s and 90s house/trance music. Much of this stems from a tape I purloined off my brother of a rave by Paul Oakenfold with him MC’ing over the top and requesting over the mic that settings and monitors are turned up or down. It was pretty low quality. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 13”

Ride London 46 Recap – 29th July 2018

Ride London 2018 Start

What a difference a day or two makes! On Thursday it was 34 degrees C, Friday 31 degrees C, Saturday was the perfect temperature, if you remove the wind the conditions were great. For Sunday, my weather app said 95% chance of rain at 8am. It was 100% correct. Continue reading “Ride London 46 Recap – 29th July 2018”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 12

Track 12 – Gym and Tonic – Spacedust (1998)

I thought this track was actually a Thomas Bangalter track (one half of Daft Punk). I was half right. It’s actually a British Duo who took French record producer Bob Sinclar’s track “Gym Tonic”, (a co-production by Thomas Bangalter) and mashed it up with another Bangalter track, Music Sounds Better with You (released under the name Stardust). Virgin Sport British 10km Pace Recap – July 2018

Virgin 10km Pacers

Back in May, I got an email from the Virgin Sport team that I have been chosen to be a pacer at the Virgin Sport British 10K presented by ASICS on 15th July 2018. I was very happy to accept this opportunity, see an event from a different perspective and help others meet their goals. Continue reading “Virgin Sport British 10km Pace Recap – July 2018”

My First Race – Musings and Learnings

First Race

This post is inspired by Tom at The Allrounder. He recently wrote a piece about Global Running Day and told the story of his first organised running experience.

This made me think about my first race that pushed me towards running. I not sure which year it was, but it must have been over 10 years ago, as it was before I ran my first London Marathon in 2008. Continue reading “My First Race – Musings and Learnings”
