The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 18

Track 18 – Don’t Kill My Vibe – Sigrid (2017)

Listening to this, it sounds like a big “F you” song about a failed relationship. It’s actually a response to an older male producer who patronised her and was rude during an early recording session. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 18”

Is it just a matter of doing more?

I wrote this post a while ago. I’m not really sure why I didn’t post it. Possibly due to the “my life is so hard” narrative that people will read, then think “just get on with it and stop moaning”. This short of stuff can be a real turn off. It’s really about telling yourself over and over again that you will do something, and you don’t do it. Anyway, here it is…. The Best Nike Adverts

With the release of the new Nike ad featuring Colin Kaepernick, I’ve put together a little ode to my favourite Nike ads.

Kaepernick is the NFL American footballer that kneeled during the National Anthem at the start of games to protest against racial injustice after a series of events that led to the Black Lives Matter movement. Continue reading “The Best Nike Adverts”

22 things to do for race day (possibly 20!)

I’ve done a fair few races in my time, but regularly in my own “I only need 5 minutes to get everything ready” way, I end up wandering around my flat looking for stuff and generally getting stressed. I then think “Why did I leave this until 11:45 pm to do this?”

I’ve racked my brains to think of things to do pre-race to make your race experience go as smoothly as possible. Continue reading “22 things to do for race day (possibly 20!)”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 17

Track 17 – Faded – ZHU (2014)

This is one of those times when you think you discovered something only to find it has over 30 million views in various forms on YouTube, was a number 1 hit in the UK, US and Polish dance charts and was nominated for a Grammy. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 17”

10,000 steps – Is it really a good target?

yoda 10000 steps

A couple of months ago, as part of a company health promotion, I started to track my daily steps. The aim was that teams of 4 would record their steps (and therefore distance) over 4 weeks with the aim to promote walking and moving more.

I was sceptical. Continue reading “10,000 steps – Is it really a good target?”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 16

Track 16 – Seek Bromance – Tim Berg (2010)

Tim Berg you say. Who’s he? He was the Swedish fella who later hit superstardom as Avicii and already has one track on this list.

I think I found this track by Shazam’ing it, and once you know who it actually is its fairly obvious it is an early Avicii track. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 16”

7 ways to avoid chafing when running

batman chafing

Chafing occurs where your skin meets some kind of friction, this can be most commonly between your legs, but also under the arms, around bra straps/wire and nipples. The outer layer of the skin is rubbed and becomes red and irritated. It can be skin on skin or skin against a fabric.

The repetitive movement of running and the exercise-induced sweat, make chafing a common occurrence whilst running. Continue reading “7 ways to avoid chafing when running”

The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 15

Track 15 – Dark and Long (Dark Train) – Underworld (1994)

In the ongoing journey through my musical history, we now come to Underworld.

There was a number of tracks I could have chosen – Rez, Cowgirl, Pearls Girl or Born Slippy.

I first discovered Underworld in 1996 when I read a review of their second album – Second Toughest in the Infants and without hearing it, went that morning and bought it. I loved it and it sat nicely with another album I was listening to, Leftism by Leftfield. Continue reading “The Awesome Running Playlist – Track 15”

Checking in – August 2018

Gdansk beach

This was going to be a post about motivation and races. This was brought on by missing another run following one to many beers on Saturday night. It was a good night, well-spent outside in a courtyard with family and friends in Poland. A good time was had by all. The late finish, sleeping in and headache put pay to the Sunday morning run.
