The shoes arrive. They look all funky and super and you can’t wait to try them out. After a few runs, the glow of the shoes wears off.

Playing to win, or playing not to lose?

The other day I came across this quote –

“For the past three years, I have been playing not to lose. After yesterday, now I am playing to win”.

It can from another excellent post by Peter Bromka. It was a text from his Dad to him before the Chicago marathon.

Habits – Helping out my brother

Facebook PostAt few weeks ago, I posted out on Facebook that I am writing this blog. I had kept it to myself and close friends. I was nervous about putting my writing out there, but the whole point is to get it out there, get some readers and help people. My brother, Andy read it and got in touch setting me a challenge of how I can to help him with simple fitness and eating habits with the aim of losing one stone. He is not in particularly great shape and like many, he works long hours, has a lengthy commute and has 2 children. So finding time is his main problem. Revive your Passion – Do what you love!

A couple of weeks ago I read an article in the Evening Standard Magazine. It was written by Jimi Famurewa, a 32 year old lapsed teen skateboarder who took skateboarding up again at the age of 30. It is a great article about re-finding your passion.

There is a quote from the article that has stuck with me over the past couple of weeks.

…. ‘the thing most people say to me when they see me skating is that they wish they had stuck with whatever it is they used to love when they were younger,’

I will admit that I read this late on a Friday evening on the way home from some beers with friends. I have great ideas, or ideas that seem like great ideas when I have had a few beers. Most of the time, I wake up the next day and they don’t seem like great ideas anymore or they seem a little stupid. I forget about them and never do anything about them.

I’ll do it tomorrow – Procrastination

Fortune Cookie 1 Do you ever hear the phrase “I’ll do it tomorrow” or do you even say it to yourself. It is very, very likely that you have or you do! Yep, procrastination!

Why do we do that? Why do we put things off? Generally it is because we don’t really want to do it.

You need to sort that pile of clothes out on the bedroom floor. The pile has been there for weeks, it has been bugging you, you intended to sort it out but there are a million other things to do that are just a little more interesting and must be done first. Inspiration to action – Make a change

IMG_1566It is very easy to be inspired. Taking action is the hard bit. There are lots of blogs, podcasts, Instagram posts and You Tube videos of people doing great things and making changes to their lives.

Every morning I am inspired to do lots of things with my day. One example is my meditation practice. Lots of content I read and listen to says that daily meditation has many positive benefits. I have tried to create a meditation practice for going on a year or so, but haven’t been able to be consistent. I will do 3 days in a row, then I will have to be early at work or something similar and I miss a day, then I miss another day and before I know it a week has gone by without meditating.

One thing that I was inspired to do and took action on was losing weight and getting fit. I used to be pretty lazy exercise wise. The food I ate was carb and meat heavy and there was plenty of socialising at the local watering holes. In this instant I did take some action and I have seen the benefits. Since then lots of friends and family have asked me how I did it and what I changed. Though it was a concise decision, I did not really do one thing. It was combination of things.
